How to Choose a Strap-On Harness: FTM and Trans Masc Guide
A strap-on harness does one job: it holds a dildo in place so you can move the way you want to. The right one for you comes down to three things — how it fits your body, how long you'll wear it, and how you want it to feel. Once you have the right one, you'll wonder how you lived without it.
How does a strap-on harness work?
The harness attaches around your waist and/or thighs with adjustable straps, and the dildo fits through a central O-ring — a circular opening that holds it in place. Most O-rings are removable, so you can switch between different dildos. That's the whole mechanism; everything else is fit, feel, and style.
The three main types
Neoprene / adjustable harness
The most beginner-friendly option. Soft, adjustable straps that fit a wide range of bodies, easy on and off, and machine-washable. O-ring size: the one spec that matters
The dildo's base needs to be wider than the O-ring so it can't slip through. Most harnesses use a standard 1.5–2 inch O-ring, and many include multiple ring sizes. Using a strap-on for the first time
Give yourself time to practice before bringing the harness into sex with a partner. Put it on, adjust every strap, walk around in it, feel how the dildo sits. The more at home you are in it, the more confident you'll be when it counts. Care and cleaning
Rinse leather harnesses with warm water after use and condition periodically — never submerge leather. Neoprene and fabric harnesses go in the washing machine. Clean your dildo separately: silicone can be boiled or run through the dishwasher (top rack, no soap).
