What Is an STP Device? FTM and Trans Masc Beginner's Guide
What is an STP device?
An STP device — short for stand-to-pee — is a prosthetic that allows you to urinate while standing, using a natural body position and aim. For trans masc and non-binary folks, having the ability to use a urinal or standing at a toilet can be a significant source of gender affirmation and everyday comfort.
How does it work?
An STP device creates a channel that directs the flow of urine outward in a natural direction. The device is positioned against the body and held in place while urinating. The technique takes some practice — most people find it clicks within a few uses — but once you have it, it becomes second nature.
What should I look for?
The most important factors are material, fit, and ease of use. Silicone STPs are body-safe, easy to clean, and durable. The device should be easy to position quickly and hold comfortably in a natural position.
NYTC’s STP: Sam
Sam is New York Toy Collective’s 3-in-1 STP — the first trans STP to reach national distribution. Sam functions as a stand-to-pee device, a soft packer for all-day wear, and a stroker for play (with the addition of the STP Erection Insert). It comes in Cashew, Caramel, and Chocolate skin tones at $64.99.
Tips for first-time users
- Practice at home first — Use Sam in the shower or standing over the toilet with toilet paper for easy cleanup while you develop your technique.
- Go slowly — Start with a slow, relaxed stream. This is easier to aim and control as you learn.
- Find your position — Slightly tilting the device forward helps direct the flow in most positions.
- Keep it clean — Rinse thoroughly after each use with warm water. Soap is fine for daily cleaning.
What about the STP Insert?
The STP Erection Insert ($9.99) converts Sam into a stroker or toy for penetrative use by adding rigidity. It’s a simple accessory that dramatically expands what Sam can do.
