Dual-Density Silicone: Why It Feels Different
Dual-density silicone is a two-layer construction: a firm inner core surrounded by a softer outer layer. The core gives you stability where you need it; the outer layer gives you natural feel everywhere else. It's 100% body-safe, non-porous, phthalate-free, and hypoallergenic — and it's how we've built our toys since 2012.
Pick up a single-density toy and a dual-density one with your eyes closed and you'll know which is which immediately. One is an object. The other reads like a body. The difference isn't marketing — it's construction. Here's what's actually going on inside.
What is dual-density silicone?
Two layers of silicone, poured to do two different jobs. The inner core is firm — it's the structure, the part that holds the toy's shape and direction. The outer layer is softer — it's the surface, the part that skin actually touches.
Together they solve the problem every one-material toy runs into: a single density has to compromise. Firm enough to hold its line, and the surface feels hard. Soft enough to feel good against skin, and the whole toy folds under pressure. Dual-density stops compromising. Stability where you need it, natural feel everywhere else.
In our toys, that firm core goes one step further — it's posable. The internal core bends, holds exactly the position you set, and moves naturally with the body. It's the same posable build we've hand-poured into the #1-selling pack-and-play for over a decade.
Why do single-density toys feel like tools?
Because most of them are built like tools. The majority of strap-ons on the market are rigid and mass-produced — one material, one hardness, stamped out at volume. A rigid toy transfers every motion directly, with nothing between the structure and the skin. Functional, sure. But nobody describes it as natural.
A dual-density toy behaves differently because the two layers respond differently. The core keeps the direction you set; the softer exterior gives at the surface the way a body gives. That's the "why does this feel so different" moment people describe the first time they hold one. You already know the difference between gripping a handle and holding a hand. Same principle.
Does handmade actually matter?
For this construction, yes. Our toys are handmade in small batches, and many are hand-poured — a firm core seated inside a softer exterior is a layered pour, not a stamp-and-ship process. That's the difference between our line and the rigid, mass-produced version of this category, and it's why Shilo — 6.5 inches long, 1.5 inches in diameter, $179.99 — has been in continuous production since 2012 and is durable for a lifetime of use. Carter shares the same construction at 7.5 inches long and 2 inches in diameter, $199.99, for the connoisseur.
Both come in colors that reflect a range of skin tones — plus expression colors, because natural feel and natural look belong together. And both are pack-and-play by design: worn under clothing before play, positioned and secured in the harness, ready when the moment comes.
Is it body-safe?
Yes. Our silicone is 100% body-safe, non-porous, phthalate-free, and hypoallergenic. Non-porous matters most day to day: the surface doesn't harbor what porous materials do, which is why cleanup is simple and why the material holds up. For anal use, add a condom and plenty of lube.
One rule to tattoo somewhere: water-based lube only. Silicone lube degrades silicone toys. If silicone lube is non-negotiable for you, the workaround is a condom over the toy — the lube never touches the silicone.
How do I care for it?
Warm soapy water. Air dry. That's the routine — no special equipment, no fine print. A toy built from body-safe, non-porous silicone doesn't ask much of you, which is part of why Shilo's live page says it's beautiful enough to be displayed on your night stand. Ours is durable for a lifetime of use; treat it accordingly. The longer version, including storage and lube compatibility, lives in silicone toy care.
Questions we hear
What is dual-density silicone? A two-layer silicone construction: firm inner core, softer outer layer. The core provides stability where you need it; the outer layer provides natural feel everywhere else. In our toys, the core is also posable — it bends, holds the position you set, and moves with the body.
Is dual-density silicone body-safe? Ours is 100% body-safe, non-porous, phthalate-free, and hypoallergenic. Use water-based lube — silicone lube degrades silicone. If you must use silicone lube, put a condom on the toy first.
Why does handmade matter? Layered construction is exacting work. Most strap-ons are rigid and mass-produced; ours are handmade in small batches, many hand-poured. Fourteen years and 50,000+ customers in, we'll stand by the method.
How do I clean a dual-density toy? Warm soapy water, then air dry. Non-porous silicone makes it that simple. For anal use, use a condom and plenty of lube, and clean the same way after.
Still deciding between the two? Shilo is 6.5 inches long at 1.5 inches in diameter; Carter is 7.5 at 2. Pick by how you play — the construction is identical.
